2013 Roundtables & Panelists:

The “Organic” Executive

Discussion: Leaders from across the cultural and organizational spectrum are starting
to ask if there is a higher calling for leadership that embodies more consciousness, humanism, and ultimately self-care. More is being written about the benefits of meditation, bio-feedback and stress reduction in order to run healthy companies, sustain an innovative work force, and positively impact the bottom line. We will discuss how these discoveries will inform new leadership paradigms, new references to “executive spell-check” for streamlining performance, sensory therapies like “super better” and use of “stay well” rooms, and the quest to achieve deep, professional well-being.

Retail Will Never Be The Same Again!

Discussion: Retailers are doing what they can to adapt and survive, but new selling models, shifting spending habits and changing technologies present challenges to even the most creative.  And the change continues, with the introduction of 3D Printers, holographic virtual assistants, video-conference kiosks, and at The Bay, for example, the introduction of Anna, a hologram sales clerk!  We will examine the changing face of retail, from rotational pop-up tenants to Tweets-payments, from male-only retail venues to revitalized personal-delivery systems, from non-carbon workers to actual in-store “profs” and classrooms.

Re-Inventing Social Conscience

Discussion: What if you could really “take a stand” and make an imprint on society?
More organizations and individuals want to see political or societal change as a result of a groundswell of consciousness or a changing belief system. “Just write a cheque” or distance philanthropy no longer guarantees satisfaction as it did in the past. We will explore the opportunity to have a sustainable, “trackable” impact on society, and how more organizations believe that to “do business” they have to “do good.”

Fab Labs (Or: How to make just about anything on your 3D printer)

Discussion: The “maker movement” is upon us! The digital fabrication revolution and Nano-manufacturing are turning science fiction into industrial fact. And with it, comes challenges to our thinking, laws, intellectual property, and fundamentals of business and society. The creativity is boundless, from bio-printing (imagine fully-functional human organs) to printable robots. Fab Labs have spread world-wide, but the impact of each is felt locally.  We will debate the Fab Lab wave as it relates to construction, labour, transportation, medicine and invention, but more profoundly the political, economic and legal revolution it signals for our lives and businesses.
