Re-Inventing the Town Hall

Debra M. Lightner,  Assistant General Counsel of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, produced a stellar Town Hall program for the Legal Division at Horizon on October 26. Not only did this leadership Town Hall meeting rock, but Amy Kopelan, President of Bedlam Productions Inc., presented a Morning Keynote called “Ten Commandments of a Great Presentation” for approximately 100 Horizon employees from the Legal, Special Investigations, Government Affairs and Compliance Departments.

Debra’s focus for this program was Learning, Leadership and Advancement. Aside from asking Amy to keynote, the day’s program integrated aJeopardy!-style” Q&A session that upped the engagement level beyond anyone’s expectations. Debra also featured Natalie Garhmann, Horizon’s Career Development Consultant, to challenge all the participants to take charge of their own careers.  Debra’s concept nailed it and we like her approach. Town Hall meetings should be fun, provocative, and collaborative.

And in addition to the great Town Hall programming, members of the Legal Affairs Division harnessed their volunteer spirit and collected gently used business attire in advance of the program, donating those items to “Dress for Success.”  Bravo!
