Are Leaders Baffled About Motivation?

Mary Prefontaine

Mary Prefontaine, President & CEO of ICAN: Institute for Career Advancement Needs, and one of our favorite Corporate State Summit speakers,
just spent 3 weeks hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc, returning home right before she moderated at the October 2, 2012  Corporate State: Toronto Summit.

She wrote about her trek as an exploration of motivation in the Huffington Post, and the insights it revealed to her as she persevered for 11 days to cover 180 kilometers and reach thousands of feet up in the French Alps! Here’s the link to her article 180 Kilometers of Motivation.
(and many thanks, Mary, for the much-appreciated shoutout for The Corporate State!)

Fittingly, Mary moderated the “Mystery of Motivation”  panel at the  Toronto summit, tapping into 5 different points of view about motivation, from neuroscience to gender to age, and how  leaders are often left baffled as to how to motivate their talented employees, their high-demanding customers and themselves.

Mary is also co-producer with Amy Kopelan of The Corporate State: Vancouver, now entering its 2nd year on May 1, 2013! We’ll be posting more information soon, and you can also contact us at to request an invitation for next year’s summit.
