Jane Francisco of Chatelaine Magazine talks the Venting Renaissance

Jane Francisco, Editor in Chief of Chatelaine Magazine, will be featured on the “Venting Renaissance” roundtable discussion at the upcoming Corporate State: Toronto summit for Women CEOs and Senior Management on October 2, 2012 at First Canadian Place.

The panel will focus on the ‘Renaissance’ of Venting, perhaps as a result of technology, art & culture, tides of geopolitical change and removal of barriers to free expression. Venting takes on a wide range of forms, from consumer feedback, product reviews and employee performance ratings to freedom of political expression, online vigilante justice, and combat simulation. The summit discussion will explore the creation of new businesses spurred by venting, new reputation management challenges and proactive strategies to leverage professional and personal expression.

Jane’s unique perspective comes from the world of publishing in the realms of fashion, health, lifestyle, and beauty to relationships, family and careers. Her expertise provides a springboard to a lively discussion.  She is the award-winning editor-in-chief of Chatelaine, Canada’s most successful women’s media brand. In a tumultuous time for publishing, Ms. Francisco was charged with evolving the 82-year-old publication into a multiple-platform business while retaining its position as number one in the Canadian marketplace. She has an impressive 20-year track record in the publishing industry, in the last decade editing some of Canada’s best-known women’s lifestyle publications.

A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ms. Francisco started her career at the helm of the breakthrough visual arts publication, Venue. After a stint as Marketing Director at Fashion Magazine, she was hired by Rogers to launch Glow — Canada’s premier beauty and health magazine. She was then named founding editor-in-chief of Wish magazine, where she remained for five years. She also served as editorial director of St. Joseph’s Media’s Lifestyle Group, overseeing content on the Wish, Gardening Life and Canadian Family brands. Before taking the reigns at of Chatelaine, Ms. Francisco ran the editorial department at Style at Home magazine. Over the course of her career, she has worked with publishers and clients of all sizes, taking a strategic role on projects with brands including P&G, Home Depot, Chanel, Microsoft, IBM and L’Oreal.
